Italian media highlights Albanian Alps as a top budget summer escape

TIRANA, August 3 – Italian news outlet Fanpage.it has ranked the Albanian Alps among the best-value mountain destinations for summer 2026. The report recommends Theth and Valbona Valley as ideal retreats for travelers seeking cooler temperatures during Italy’s Ferragosto holiday.

According to Fanpage.it, Italy has experienced repeated heatwaves this summer, with temperatures reaching 40°C in several regions. As a result, more holidaymakers are choosing mountain destinations over traditional beach resorts. The publication says travelers can still enjoy affordable mountain holidays during Ferragosto, one of Italy’s busiest travel periods.

Meanwhile, the article describes Albania as one of the most popular summer destinations of 2026 because of its competitive prices and diverse landscapes. It highlights Theth and Valbonë for their hiking trails, traditional villages and unspoiled natural scenery.

Fanpage.it reports that a one-week stay for two people costs between €250 and €300 in Theth and around €150 in Valbona. The publication also notes that Tirana International Airport offers flights from Milan, Rome and Naples for just over €100.

In addition, Fanpage.it lists the Albanian Alps among the five most affordable mountain destinations for summer 2026. The ranking also includes the Dolomites, the Abruzzo Mountains, the mountains of Montenegro, and the Carpathians and Transylvania.
