Jaupaj: New EU Budget Should Support Environmental Standards in Candidate Countries

Minister of Environment Sofjan Jaupaj took part in a regional meeting of chief EU negotiators from the Western Balkans in Skopje.

Jaupaj said the meeting focused on the European Union’s new budget for 2028-2034. He said the participants also discussed the EU integration process and the environmental dimension of the negotiations.

“The new European Union budget must include the right mechanisms for countries that will join the EU, such as Montenegro and Albania,” Jaupaj said.

He stressed that the discussions will help Albania plan how to use EU funds and future resources linked to membership.

“These funds will support the projects and infrastructure we need to meet all the required standards,” Jaupaj said.

Meanwhile, the regional meeting aims to accelerate reforms and bring Western Balkan countries closer to EU standards. Environmental issues remain an important part of the integration process.
