Justice Minister Gogu meets students in Elbasan: European integration guides daily justice

TIRANA, April 7 – Justice Minister Toni Gogu met students in Elbasan to discuss European Union integration and judicial reform.

Gogu emphasized on social media that “Europe is not just a political destination. It is a daily standard of operation.” He highlighted concrete results from judicial reform, including new institutions, the vetting process, and a 60% reduction in pending cases at the Supreme Court over five years.

He noted that challenges remain. These include consolidating the system, increasing digitalization, improving access, and maintaining integrity. “The message to students was clear: tomorrow’s justice is built not only with better laws but with better people. European integration is not a date. It is how justice works every day for citizens,” Gogu said.

During his visit, he also met central and local representatives of the Free Legal Aid Service, Probation Service, and State Enforcement Agency in Elbasan. Gogu said he did not only hear statistics. “I first heard stories of citizens who received help, mothers who obtained protection orders, parents clarifying property rights, and grandparents who had their pension years recognized,” he explained.

He stressed that access to justice is not just a principle on paper. “It is the real possibility to be heard, to claim your rights, and to receive answers,” Gogu added.

According to the minister, the Justice Ministry’s mission is to strengthen citizens’ trust daily through service, responsibility, and accountability.
