Kadare and Agolli Promoted in Sofia as Voices of Albanian Literature in Europe

The University of Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski” hosted an evening full of words, memories, and emotions that celebrated two of the greatest voices of Albanian literature, Ismail Kadare and Dritëro Agolli, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs reported today.

Under the title “Albanian Voices in European Literature”, the event, organized by the Embassy of Albania in cooperation with the Department of Balkan Studies, gathered diplomats, academics, students, and cultural figures. Among them were Luc Levy, director of the French Institute in Sofia, and Anisa Ymeri, director of the Kadare House Museum in Tirana.

Albania’s ambassador to Bulgaria, Inid Milo, highlighted two dimensions of the authors: Kadare, who invites reflection, and Agolli, who evokes feeling. She reminded the audience that language remains the place where identity, history, and imagination intersect.

Students performed readings in Albanian and translated versions, accompanied by musical interpretations, creating a vibrant cultural bridge between Albania and Bulgaria. The event demonstrated that Albanian literature not only travels but also unites.

BTA, Bulgaria’s central news agency, covered the event, giving international visibility to this promotion of Albanian culture.
