Korçë sees strong demand for medicinal herbs

The medicinal herb harvest has begun across the Korçë region. This season, farmers mainly collect cornflowers and mountain tea.

Demand remains strong. Moreover, collectors say prices have increased compared with previous years. As a result, farmers expect higher profits.

Collector and exporter Gjergji Çibuku said farmers across Pogradec, Korçë, Devoll, and Ersekë have expanded saffron cultivation. In addition, international markets continue to show strong demand for the crop.

According to Çibuku, saffron now brings much higher prices than last year. Likewise, mountain tea has made a strong comeback after several difficult seasons. He said the price increase has significantly improved farmers’ earnings.

Meanwhile, growers who have cultivated medicinal herbs for years say they are pleased with this season. They believe higher prices have boosted their income and encouraged them to continue investing in the sector.

Overall, the Korçë region remains one of Albania’s leading producers of medicinal and aromatic plants. Most of the harvest goes to European markets, where buyers value its high quality and production standards.
