Kosova education minister attends Albanian language competition in Tirana, highlights joint education efforts

TIRANA, April 16 – Kosova’s Minister of Education, Science and Technology Hajrulla Çeku attended the final of the National Albanian Language Competition in Tirana. He joined the event at the invitation of Albania’s Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro.

Çeku said he chose Tirana for his first official visit as minister due to the event’s focus on the Albanian language. He highlighted Albania’s historical support for education in Kosovo, including the provision of teachers and textbooks during the former Yugoslavia period. He added that cooperation continued after Kosova’s independence across all levels of education.

Bilateral efforts include joint curricula, shared publications, and programmes for teaching Albanian in the diaspora. Authorities from both countries have also digitalised teaching materials and signed agreements to standardise language instruction abroad.

The minister underlined the role of students in preserving the Albanian language and national identity. He noted that Albania and Kosova organise joint initiatives such as the Albanian Language and Culture Seminar, a shared Olympiad [contest], and the ABC Book celebration.
