TIRANA, July 17 – Kosova’s acting President Albulena Haxhiu said the constitutive session of the country’s parliament will take place in early August.
She explained that the constitutional deadline expires on August 7. Haxhiu added that the Constitution gives the president 30 days to call the session. Meanwhile, she said she decided to give political parties time to continue talks and seek an agreement before the parliament’s formation.
According to Haxhiu, this approach aims to prevent delays in the election of the president after the parliament becomes operational. She said parties should reach an agreement so that Kosova does not enter a prolonged process for choosing the head of state.
Haxhiu warned that failure to elect a president could lead to early elections. However, she said such a scenario would not serve citizens’ interests and stressed the importance of all lawmakers attending the constitutive session.
