Kosova votes as citizens elect 120-seat parliament

TIRANA, June 7 – Voters in Kosova headed to the polls on Saturday to elect the 11th legislature of the 120-seat parliament. The Central Election Commission distributed voting materials across all 38 municipalities. A total of 23 political parties and three coalitions are competing, with 917 candidates running for office. Twenty parliamentary seats are reserved for minority communities.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 and are scheduled to close at 19:00. Vote counting will begin immediately afterward, while preliminary results are expected within hours. More than 2 million citizens are eligible to vote. In addition, about 130,000 voters cast ballots from abroad by mail or at diplomatic missions before the voting period ended on Friday.

Meanwhile, voting is taking place at 949 polling centers and 2,550 polling stations nationwide. The election commission has also deployed mobile teams to assist voters with special needs. Security authorities and more than 100 prosecutors are monitoring the process. The election follows the parliament’s failure to elect a new president after the term of Vjosa Osmani ended. Analysts say the country could continue to face political deadlock unless the main parties reach a consensus after the vote.
