The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, in coordination with the Food and Veterinary Agency, has imposed a temporary ban on the import of sheep and goats from the entire territory of Albania.
The decision comes after confirmed cases of the disease PPR (Peste des Petits Ruminants) in the Dibër region.
“We call on municipalities in Kosovo along the border with Albania, through their agriculture directorates, to implement strict measures restricting the movement of small livestock in border grazing areas. Farmers raising sheep and goats should keep their herds under close supervision and avoid any contact with herds from Albania,” the Food and Veterinary Agency said in a statement.
The announcement also emphasized that border authorities will strengthen controls at all crossing points and in border areas with Albania, in order to prevent the spread of the disease into the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
