Following competitions in various sports, it is now judo’s turn at the “Taranto 2026” Mediterranean Games, a sport that has brought Kosovo some of its greatest successes on the international stage.

Kosovo’s judokas will compete on August 28 and 29 in Taranto, Italy, aiming to win medals at this major sporting event. Kosovo will be represented by seven judokas — four women and three men, KosovaPress reports.

In the women’s competition, Erza Muminoviq (-48 kg), Fatjona Kasapi (-52 kg), Flaka Loxha (-57 kg), and Laura Fazliu (-63 kg) will compete. In the men’s competition, Kosovo will be represented by Akil Gjakova (-73 kg), Dardan Cena (-81 kg), and Shpati Zekaj (-100 kg).

A total of 162 judokas from 22 countries will take part in the judo competitions in Taranto, including 84 men and 78 women.

The Kosovo team will be led by head coach Driton Kuka and coach Majlinda Kelmendi. Agron Kuka, President of the Kosovo Judo Federation, is also part of the delegation.

The delegation also includes Zymer Zeka as a sparring partner, as well as Fatos Tabaku and Distria Krasniqi, who are participating as members of the Kosovo Olympic Committee board.

Kosovo’s judokas will aim to continue the country’s strong tradition of success in the sport and bring home new medals from “Taranto 2026.”
