Kosovo’s trade deficit increased by 16.1% in June 2026 compared with the same period last year, reaching €578.3 million.
The deficit reflects the gap between the value of imports and exports. According to data from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), exports covered only 15% of imports.
Kosovo exported goods worth €102 million in June, marking a 26.9% annual increase. Meanwhile, imports reached €680.3 million, up 17.6% compared with June 2025.
Base metals and related products led Kosovo’s exports, accounting for 27.4% of the total value. Prepared food, beverages, and tobacco followed with 12.7%, while plastics, rubber products, manufactured goods, and mineral products also contributed significantly.
On the import side, mineral products represented the largest share at 15.2%. Machinery and electrical equipment followed with 13%, transport equipment with 12%, prepared food, beverages, and tobacco with 11.9%, and base metals with 9.8%.
European Union countries remained among Kosovo’s main trade partners. Kosovo exported €32.5 million worth of goods to EU markets, representing 31.9% of total exports. Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy were the main destinations.
At the same time, Kosovo imported €304.9 million worth of goods from the EU, accounting for 44.8% of total imports. Germany, Italy, and Poland ranked as the main suppliers.
CEFTA countries also remained important trade partners. Kosovo exported €44 million worth of goods to these markets, or 43.1% of total exports. Imports from CEFTA countries reached €98.7 million, representing 14.5% of total imports. North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and Serbia were the main partners.
Outside the EU and CEFTA markets, Switzerland and Türkiye were Kosovo’s leading export destinations, while China and Türkiye remained the main sources of imports, according to the KAS foreign trade statistics report.
