Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, held a meeting this Wednesday with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, as part of efforts to reach an agreement on the election of Kosovo’s new President.
The meeting, held at the Kosovo Assembly, aims to find a consensus candidate for the position of head of state in order to avoid new elections.
Ahead of the meeting, Kurti told the media that the parties were holding discussions in good faith, stressing that the process would remain confidential until a concrete agreement is reached.
“We are continuing discussions in good faith, as we agreed, so that we can jointly decide on the name of the new president, whether a man or a woman, and avoid unnecessary new elections. We will certainly be open with you regarding the process, but until we reach an agreement, we must maintain confidentiality. I always expect the best, and that is what I expect today as well,” Kurti said.
Meanwhile, Lumir Abdixhiku did not make a statement to the media before the meeting.
Wednesday’s meeting follows discussions held between Kurti and Abdixhiku last week, during which the parties focused on the criteria and profile required for Kosovo’s new President. Future meetings are expected to move on to discussions of specific candidates.
