Kurti from Parliament: Democracy cannot develop through institutional blockades

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, during today’s plenary session, emphasized that following the Constitutional Court’s decision to allow the continued functioning of the Assembly, it is essential to respect the constitutional order and the democratic functioning of institutions.

He also spoke about the decree issued by President Vjosa Osmani, stating that it was not in line with the Constitution.

“The issued decree was inconsistent with the Constitution and has created a situation that requires clarity, not confusion, and responsibility, not avoidance,” he said.

He underlined that the Constitutional Court’s decision has clarified the limits of institutional competencies and reaffirmed the fundamental principles of democracy in the country.

Kurti stressed that the dissolution of the Assembly cannot be used as a tool to overcome political difficulties. According to him, it has been clearly demonstrated that no one can undermine the will of the citizens through ambiguous constitutional interpretations.

He added that democracy cannot develop through institutional blockades, but through mutual respect of competencies and the role of each institution, in accordance with the Constitution.
