Late Antique Archaeological Discoveries Reveal Major Temple Complex in Bushat

Archaeologists have uncovered significant remains in Bushat, in Shkodër. They found parts of a large temple. They also uncovered sections of the ancient city wall. In addition, they identified a Late Antique building.

First, the discovery came during joint excavations. The University of Tirana’s Department of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage worked with the University of Warsaw’s Southeast European Research Center. They also cooperated with the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage.

Next, researchers focused on the acropolis of the ancient city, dating from the 4th to 1st century BC. As a result, they collected new evidence about urban development and public architecture.

Moreover, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodër said the findings provide important insights. They help explain how the city evolved over time. They also show how the site was used in later periods.

Meanwhile, authorities have recently declared Bushat an archaeological protection zone. They will soon install visitor signage to improve access and education.

Finally, the Regional Directorate has increased conservation efforts across key sites. These include the Koman settlement in Koman, the ancient city of Bushat, Rozafa Castle, and Lezhë Castle.
