Malaj: Strengthening internal audit is a priority of public financial management reform

Finance Minister Petrit Malaj attends the “Strengthening Internal Audit” conference in Tirana. The Institute of Internal Auditors Albania organizes the event.

Bank of Albania Governor Gent Sejko and IIA Global President Anthony Pugliese also attend.

Malaj says internal audit is a key pillar of good governance, transparency, and financial integrity. He says it is a priority in public financial management reform. He links it directly to Albania’s EU integration process.

He says the Ministry of Finance takes concrete steps to strengthen internal audit. He says Albania aligns the system with international standards.

First, he highlights the new internal audit manual. He says it builds a modern system of control and accountability.

Next, he announces the certification process for internal auditors. He says OECD/SIGMA supports the program. He says it strengthens skills and human capital.

He also highlights the national certification system. He says it follows international best practices. He adds that Albania adopts Global Internal Audit Standards with IIA Albania.

He says these steps build a system based on quality and integrity. He says they strengthen trust and credibility in institutions.

He says the Ministry of Finance aligns the legal framework with the European Union. He highlights Chapter 32 on financial control.

He says the chapter strengthens the rule of law and public institutions. He says it requires strong internal control and independent audit.

He says this is not only a technical requirement. He says it builds public trust and improves financial management.

Finally, he says a modern administration monitors and improves policy implementation. He says the ministry supports a professional, independent, and strong internal audit system.
