Market Surveillance Inspectorate ensures consumer protection

TIRANA, August 4 – Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj highlighted the role of the Central Market Surveillance Inspectorate (IQMT) in ensuring the safety of non-food products and protecting consumers.

Ibrahimaj said all products that citizens use daily must meet safety requirements and comply with legal standards. She added that IQMT monitors the market to verify non-food product compliance and support fair competition.

Meanwhile, the inspectorate plans and carries out inspections of economic operators based on programs approved by competent authorities. It also checks products placed on the market by reviewing technical and legal documents, labels and consumer information.

IQMT covers areas such as non-food product safety, elevators and mechanical equipment, industrial property and copyright, metrology and pre-packaged products, as well as energy efficiency labels for electrical appliances.

In addition, Ibrahimaj said IQMT takes administrative measures when inspections identify violations. The institution can require corrections and, when the law allows, stop sales or remove products that fail to meet legal standards.

According to the minister, IQMT’s work helps ensure safer products, protect consumer rights and strengthen fair competition in the market.
