TIRANA, September 2 – Weightlifter Enkileda Carja, 18, won a bronze medal for Albania in the 69 kg snatch competition at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games.
Carja successfully lifted 98 kg and 100 kg in her first two attempts. She then tried 103 kg in her third attempt in an effort to win gold but failed.
The Albanian weightlifter also competed in the clean and jerk. She lifted 116 kg in her first attempt but failed with 121 kg and 122 kg in her next two attempts.
Carja’s personal bests are 103 kg in the snatch and 123 kg in the clean and jerk. She set both marks at the European Youth Championships in Batumi, Georgia, in April, where she also received the European Rising Star 2025 award.
Meanwhile, Briken Calja won two medals on the same day. He took gold in the 75 kg snatch with 154 kg and bronze in the clean and jerk with 184 kg. His performance also produced four new Mediterranean records.
Albania now has six medals at the Games: two gold, one silver and three bronze.
