The Government of Albania and the Italian energy company Eni S.p.A. signed a memorandum of understanding in Tirana today. The agreement focuses on a feasibility study for creating national capacity for the supply and storage of oil and gas products.
First, the initiative aims to strengthen energy security. It also seeks to improve economic stability and increase Albania’s role as a regional energy hub.
In addition, the agreement includes a feasibility study for establishing a new national operator. This operator will manage fuel supply and storage infrastructure.
Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the ceremony. He described the partnership as a key moment for Albania’s energy future. He also said the project will help guarantee the country’s strategic oil reserves.
Moreover, Rama explained that the new company will introduce a modern model in the hydrocarbons market. It will act in a way that improves market efficiency and benefits consumers.
At the same time, he highlighted past energy challenges. He pointed out that global crises have shown the importance of maintaining strong strategic reserves.
As a result, the government has updated the legal framework for oil reserves. This ensures a more complete and reliable system for future supply security.
Furthermore, Rama emphasized Albania’s strategic partnership with Italy. He also underlined the long-term cooperation with Eni, which has been present in Albania since 2019.
In addition, he said the new operator will be developed jointly with Eni. It will also take responsibility for ensuring strategic oil reserves.
Consequently, Albania expects greater stability in case of future energy crises. The new company is expected to function as a modern and dynamic market operator.
Finally, Rama stated that the process will continue quickly. He announced that the company registration is expected soon, marking a new step in Albania’s energy sector development.
