Mesi Bridge in Shkodër, a preferred destination for local and foreign tourists

TIRANA, May 8 – Mesi Bridge attracts daily visitors from Albania and abroad. Tourists admire its history, architecture, and cultural heritage value. Prime Minister Edi Rama shared photos from the site in Shkodër and described it as a restored pearl of cultural heritage.

The bridge lies about 8 kilometres from Shkodër city over the Kir River. It stands as a cultural monument with historical, architectural, and technical value. It also represents a symbol of ancient civilisation.

Mehmet Pashë Bushati built the bridge in 1768. The structure connected Drisht with Shkodër. It features a characteristic “humpback” design. It belongs to the most distinctive Ottoman-era bridges in Albania.

The bridge measures 108 metres in length and 3.40 metres in width. It includes 13 asymmetrical arches. Builders used carved stone. Workers laid the road surface with stone slabs.

The surrounding landscape adds further value. Natural rocks frame the area. The Kir River flows beneath the structure. The architecture and local legend linked to its construction continue to attract visitors. The site ranks among the most visited destinations in northern Albania.
