MIE Presents 2026–2040 Mining Strategy Aligned with EU Standards

Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania has presented the National Mining Strategy 2026–2040 in Tirana. The plan sets a long-term vision for a modern and sustainable mining sector aligned with European Union standards.

The strategy is based on three key frameworks: NSDI 2030, the EU Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), and the Smart Specialization Strategy 2025–2030.

Officials said the plan will guide the sector toward innovation, digitalization, and green technologies.

Director Dhori Dapi said the strategy gives the mining industry a clear long-term direction.

He said it will increase competitiveness, attract investment, and improve geological exploration and technological modernization.

The strategy focuses on several key goals:

  • Expanding geological exploration and reassessing mineral reserves
  • Developing domestic processing and refining capacities
  • Recovering metals from historical mining waste
  • Fully digitizing geological data
  • Strengthening industrial safety standards
  • Reducing environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Revitalizing vocational education and scientific research in geology and mining

Officials said the plan aims to position Albania as a regional hub for strategic minerals.

They added that the strategy supports the green transition and ensures sustainable supply of raw materials for the European economy.
