Tirana, July 10 – The ninth edition of the MIK Festival has opened in Korça. The four-day event brings concerts and cultural performances to historic venues across the city. Organisers will present a wide range of musical genres throughout the festival.
Festival founder and internationally acclaimed soprano Inva Mula said this year’s edition opens with 1930s French jazz for the first time. She said the programme introduces audiences to a genre that remains largely unfamiliar. She added that each edition aims to surprise the public with new artistic experiences.
Morina Trio opened the festival with a jazz concert at the Old Bazaar Inn. Guitarist Armend Xhaferi said he was pleased to perform in Korça for the first time. He also introduced a jazz style that audiences in the region rarely hear.
In addition, double bassist Xavier Nikq made his debut in Albania. He described Korça as a beautiful city and said he was delighted to perform with his colleagues from Kosova. Nikq added that the visit held special meaning because of his Albanian and French heritage.
The festival runs until July 12. Concerts and artistic events will take place at the Andon Z. Çajupi Theatre, Drenova, Hoçisht and Rinia Park. The programme features leading Albanian and international performers.
