Minister Demo urges diaspora investment in Albania’s regional development

Minister of State for Local Government Ervin Demo said the diaspora can become a key driver of change in Albania through investment.

He made the statement during the fourth Albanian Diaspora Summit in Tirana.

Demo said authorities should not view relations with the diaspora only through remittances. He said the diaspora can play a much more active role in discovering and developing local territories.

He highlighted Albania’s economic opportunities across the country. He pointed to a tourism boom and said Albania now operates the largest airport in the Balkans, reflecting growing visitor numbers.

Demo said more diaspora members are choosing to invest in Albania, especially in real estate.

He presented the government’s “Mountain Package” initiative as a tool for rural and regional development. He said the program aims to unlock underdeveloped areas and create new opportunities.

Demo said many Albanians abroad show strong interest in investing in their places of origin.

He said regional development strengthens municipalities and supports entrepreneurship. He added that Albania now offers stable conditions and guarantees for investment and business development.
