Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro visited the facilities of “Fan Noli” University in Korça, where she held an open discussion on the challenges of internationalization and changes to the Higher Education Law.
During the meeting, attended by Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi, Kumbaro spoke with University Rector Lorenc Ekonomi, faculty deans, professors, and academic staff about the revised draft law and the benefits of opening the French Lyceum of Korça with a scientific and technological focus.
Kumbaro said the review of the Higher Education Law started in November 2025, when the Ministry of Education asked public and private universities to provide feedback and suggestions on the effectiveness of the existing legislation.
She stressed that the government does not plan to introduce a new law, but rather revise specific aspects of the current one, especially those related to internationalization, which she described as a major challenge for universities across the country.
According to Kumbaro, Korça University represents an important investment and development model for the region. She said the university aims to become an international knowledge hub, while the new French Lyceum will strengthen scientific and technological education pathways.
During her visit, the minister also inspected reconstruction works at the nine-year school “Sotir Gurra”, which will reopen for more than 600 students in the new academic year.
