More Public Spaces on Velipojë Beach and Price Caps for the Tourist Season

Velipojë Beach is expected to see positive changes during this tourist season, with an increase in public spaces and a better-organized service structure. More than 30% of the coastline will be available as free public beach areas, while municipally managed zones with reduced prices will also operate.

“For this season, the Municipality of Shkodër will manage four paid beaches, three in Velipojë Beach and one in the Rjollarea. Prices will not exceed 500 lek for umbrellas and sunbeds at these beaches, without affecting the free beach areas,” said Bekim Mema.

According to the municipality, these affordable beaches will serve as an alternative between public and private beach areas, aiming to provide services at reasonable costs for vacationers.

“Municipalities have the right to set maximum prices for private operators. In Shkodër we have opened a public consultation, and the proposal is 900 lek per umbrella as the maximum price on private beaches,” Mema added.

According to the municipality, private beaches will be subject to price caps to prevent abuses and uncontrolled price increases during the tourist season. Meanwhile, supporting infrastructure in coastal areas is also being expanded, including access platforms, public toilets, and directional signage for visitors.

According to data from the Tourism Management Committee, 42 permits have been issued in Velipojë Beach for beach use, while the regulation process is still ongoing. Tourism operators are making their final preparations for the season, while the lack of workforce remains one of the main challenges again this year.
