More than half of Albania’s trade with European Union countries, INSTAT data show

TIRANA, August 18 – European Union countries remained Albania’s main trading partner for goods in July 2026, accounting for 53.6% of total trade, according to INSTAT. European markets also received the largest share of Albanian exports during the month.

Exports to European Union countries accounted for 68.4% of Albania’s total exports, while imports from the bloc represented 47.8% of total imports. The figures highlight the European market’s central role in Albania’s foreign trade.

Among individual trading partners, Greece recorded the strongest growth in Albanian exports compared with July 2025, at 19%. Exports to Germany also increased, rising 2.5%. Meanwhile, shipments to Italy fell 2%, while those to Kosova declined 2.4%.

On the import side, goods from China posted the strongest increase, at 22.7%. Imports from Italy edged up 0.3%, whereas purchases from Germany fell 9.2% and those from Greece dropped 2.9%.

Overall, INSTAT data show that Albania’s foreign trade remains closely linked to European markets. The strong share of exports to European Union countries also comes as Albania advances its European integration process and local businesses seek to expand their presence in the common European market.
