Morina border crossing with Kosova sees over 25,000 daily movements, traffic doubles at weekends

TIRANA, August 19 – The Morina border crossing with Kosova continues to record heavy traffic during the week. More than 25,000 people cross the border each day on average. The figure almost doubles at weekends.

Many citizens from Kosova appear to be using the remaining weeks of the summer season for holidays on Albania’s coast. Meanwhile, some Kosova citizens living and working elsewhere in Europe are returning home after spending their holidays with their families.

Early Tuesday morning also saw heavy traffic from Kosova towards Albania. Authorities have introduced simplified border procedures for vehicles with Albanian and Kosova plates. However, long queues sometimes extend deep into Kosova because foreign-registered vehicles still undergo standard checks.

Around 2,300 vehicles entered Albania during the early hours of Tuesday. According to border police, traffic peaked between 5 and 7 a.m.

At the same time, authorities do not have an exact figure for the number of people because of registration procedures. Daily movements average more than 25,000 on weekdays. Weekend traffic reaches almost twice that level.

Although it remains too early to compare the figures with last summer, authorities expect more border crossings this year. The increase extends beyond Morina to other crossing points between Albania and Kosova.

In addition, Qafë-Morina in Tropoja and Qafë-Prush in Has have recorded more arrivals and departures. Expanded tourist maps and guides now promote routes towards Valbona National Park, the Shala River and Lake Koman.
