From the mountains of Slovenia to the wild landscapes of Finland and the calm shores of France, some of Europe’s most beautiful lakes remain far from large tourist crowds.

Moreover, it has been ranked among six unique and still relatively uncrowded lakes in Europe by National Geographic, alongside Bohinj Lake in Slovenia, Ennerdale Water in the United Kingdom, Lake Saimaa in Finland, Lake Thun in Switzerland, and Lake Vassivière in France.

Often considered the oldest lake in Europe, Lake Ohrid creates the impression of a place where time has stopped. In fact, it lies on the border between North Macedonia and Albania and has existed for around 1.5 million years, while settlements along its shores date back thousands of years.

Although it holds UNESCO World Heritage status and an extraordinary history, the lake remains significantly quieter than many other famous European lakes. Therefore, it offers a rare combination of heritage and tranquility.
