The National Security Council, convened by President Bajram Begaj, concluded its meeting held on Monday at the Palace of Brigades.
The meeting began at 08:30 and was also attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, along with the heads of the country’s main security institutions and other senior state officials.
The meeting took place at a sensitive time for Albania’s security institutions, following the investigation and house arrest order against former State Intelligence Service (SHISH) Director Vlora Hyseni.
Discussions focused on the national security situation, the protection of classified information, and issues related to the functioning and safeguarding of institutions, particularly in cases where their senior officials or employees become subject to criminal investigations.
Rama had said a day earlier that Hyseni’s case and institutional responsibilities would be discussed at the National Security Council, describing it as the appropriate forum for addressing safeguards to protect the country’s security institutions.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, no comprehensive details have yet been made public regarding the discussions.
