“Neighbours / from Motherland” receives 10-minute standing ovation at Tirana Dance Festival

The world premiere of “Neighbours / from Motherland” opened the fifth International Dance Festival in Tirana. The performance received a 10-minute standing ovation from the audience.

Brigel Gjoka and Rauf “Rubberlegz” Yasi created the contemporary dance work. It brought the Albanian and Kosova Ballet companies together on the same stage for the first time. The performance at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet explored shared roots and identity.

The performance filled the theatre and drew strong public interest in the fifth edition of the festival.

Meanwhile, Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja attended the festival opening and shared footage from the performance on social media. He said the production will travel to the National Theatre of Kosova in Prishtina on October 7. The move will extend the collaboration between the two ballet companies to Kosova.

The festival programme includes a range of activities. It will bring artists and productions from the international contemporary dance scene to Tirana.
