Over 1 million vehicles registered in Albania, 35% circulating in Tirana

The road vehicle market in Albania continues to expand steadily at the beginning of 2026, with the highest concentration in Tirana.

According to data from INSTAT for the first quarter of 2026, the total number of road vehicles in circulation reached 1,068,000, marking a 9% increase compared to the same period a year earlier. This expansion confirms the upward trend of recent years, driven by demand for individual mobility.

The vehicle structure remains dominated by passenger cars, which account for 81% of the total, far surpassing other categories such as motorcycles and mixed-use vehicles.

Geographically, Tirana continues to hold the largest share of vehicles in the country, with 35% of the total, followed by Durrës with 14%.

Meanwhile, regions such as Gjirokastër and Kukës remain at the lowest levels of motorization, each accounting for about 2% of vehicles in circulation.

In terms of brand preference, European brands continue to dominate, particularly Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.
