With the increase in travel flows toward tourist and coastal areas, the Albanian State Police has stepped up controls across the country, using radars and drones to monitor road traffic.
During the past week, more than 26,000 administrative measures were imposed for various traffic violations, ranging from not wearing seat belts or helmets, using mobile phones while driving, dangerous overtaking, to driving under the influence of alcohol.
In the same period, 48 drivers were arrested, of whom 26 were for driving while intoxicated and 22 others for driving without a license.
Police attention has been mainly focused on national road axes leading to tourist and coastal areas, where weekends bring a high volume of vehicles.
In urban areas, checks have also targeted illegal parking, which often blocks the free movement of citizens and emergency services. In Tirana alone, 258 vehicles were towed for such violations.
The State Police continues its work on the ground to prevent criminal incidents and calls on citizens to respect traffic rules and cooperate with authorities by reporting violations.
