Ten people have faced criminal proceedings and 5,444 administrative fines have been issued by the Tirana Traffic Police over the past 48 hours as part of intensified checks on the capital’s roads.
According to Police, the 10 individuals were prosecuted mainly for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or driving without a valid license.
Meanwhile, three other people have faced criminal proceedings on suspicion of attempting to bribe police officers in order to avoid administrative penalties for traffic violations, including driving under the influence of alcohol and using a mobile phone while driving.
During the checks:
- 18 vehicles were impounded;
- 13 vehicle registration documents were seized;
- 5,444 administrative fines were issued for various violations.
The Traffic Police said the checks were carried out through increased police presence on the ground and the use of technological equipment, with a focus on preventing accidents and improving road safety.
Speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a valid license are considered by Police to be among the violations posing the highest risk of road accidents.
