Painter Skënder Kamberi passes away, Gonxhja: He left a rich legacy

Painter Skënder Kamberi has died at the age of 87. He dedicated his life to art and painting.

He was born in Vlorë on February 2, 1939. He graduated from the Artistic Lyceum in 1960. He later studied at the Higher Institute of Arts, graduating in 1965.

After his studies, he returned to his hometown. There, he worked with painter Nestor Jonuzi. Together, they contributed to the development of painting in the city.

Kamberi is considered one of the most important Albanian painters. His works reflect love for art, people, and his city Vlorë.

The National Gallery of Arts holds several of his works. His art was also exhibited internationally in countries such as Egypt, France, the UK, Turkey, Italy, and Greece.

His notable works include “Bread Demonstration” (1971) and “Village of Kuç.”

Minister Blendi Gonxhja paid tribute to him. He called Kamberi a key figure in visual arts. He said his passing is a major loss for Albanian culture.

He said Kamberi created over 1,400 works. These include monumental compositions, portraits, landscapes, and expressive paintings.

Gonxhja said Kamberi maintained artistic integrity throughout his career. He said his work will remain alive and inspiring for future generations.
