Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi welcomed a delegation from the United States House of Representatives to the Albanian Parliament, led by Congressman Vern Buchanan, Chairman of the House Democracy Partnership.
US Ambassador to Albania Eric Wendt also attended the meeting. Discussions focused on further strengthening the strategic relationship between Albania and the United States, as well as cooperation on security and regional stability.
The meeting comes at an important time for Albania as it continues its negotiations for membership in the European Union while maintaining an active role within NATO and in regional security.
One of the issues discussed was accelerating the European integration process, with an emphasis on continuing reforms and strengthening democratic institutions.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to expand economic cooperation and business ties between the two countries, with the aim of creating new opportunities for investment and partnerships between Albanian and American companies.
Interparliamentary cooperation was also in focus, along with the role of Parliament in advancing reforms, increasing transparency and consolidating democratic institutions.
During the meeting, the importance of constructive dialogue between political forces and parliamentary groups on issues of national interest was also highlighted.
