Pilot project advances digital mapping of agricultural land in Berat

TIRANA, April 23 – Authorities in Albania have advanced a pilot project to digitalise agricultural land management in Berat, covering more than 100 farms. The initiative forms part of efforts to develop the Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS) and prepare for the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS).

The EU4PropertyRights project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services, supports the development of the system. It works in cooperation with the State Cadastre Agency and the State Authority for Geospatial Information to identify, classify and control agricultural parcels.

During the second phase of the pilot, teams conducted field verifications in the Tomorr mountain area. The process included farmer declarations, checks for parcel overlaps and simulation of administrative procedures to ensure data accuracy and transparency.

Earlier work mapped more than 35,000 hectares of agricultural land in Berat using geographic information systems and orthophotos from 2025. Authorities said the LPIS rollout aims to improve land management, strengthen control mechanisms and align the sector with European standards.
