PM Rama backs Lana Nusseibeh for United Nations secretary-general

Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed Albania’s full support for Lana Nusseibeh of the United Arab Emirates as a candidate for United Nations secretary-general. In a post on X, he described her candidacy as an opportunity for a fresh start for the international organization.

Rama said he had met Nusseibeh during Albania’s elected membership of the United Nations Security Council. He praised her knowledge of international politics, intellectual humility and ability to bridge cultural and political differences.

The prime minister said Nusseibeh offered renewed hope at a time when the United Nations faces questions about its ability to fulfill its mission. He highlighted her experience, intelligence and commitment to serving humanity without prejudice.

Prime Minister also stressed the importance of appointing a woman to lead the United Nations after a long history of male leadership.
