PM Rama describes ‘Flamingo Revolution’ as example of disinformation and foreign interference

TIRANA, July 27 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that what he described as the “Flamingo Revolution” represented an example of disinformation and foreign interference.

Speaking at the conference “Confronting Information Manipulation and Foreign Interference: Albania and the Enlargement Context” in Tirana, Rama referred to the protests known by this symbolic name and discussed what he called the role of foreign actors in shaping the public debate.

Rama said the “Flamingo Revolution” showed how a social issue could become a channel for wider influence operations. He added that alleged foreign interference involved online activity through trolls and digital accounts.

Meanwhile, Rama said Albania must strengthen its resilience against hybrid threats as the country moves towards the final stage of European Union accession negotiations.

He described the effort as an important step towards building a society that can protect itself from such threats while preserving democratic values and institutions.

Rama also referred to countries involved in the European Union enlargement process and said that foreign actors increase their efforts to influence public opinion as countries move closer to membership.
