PM Rama says Albania receives highest-ever European Commission progress assessment

Prime Minister Edi Rama said the European Commission’s annual progress report had given Albania its highest assessment to date. He described the result as another proud moment for the country’s European future.

Rama called the report encouraging and a further step towards the historic goal of joining the European Union. However, he stressed that many tasks remained and the timetable for accession negotiations was becoming tighter.

He said the positive assessment did not diminish the problems affecting citizens’ daily lives. Rama added that these issues would remain a priority for him, the government and the parliamentary majority. He said the report should motivate them to do more and improve their work.

The prime minister described the current moment as optimal, saying the door to European Union membership was open and the prospect of accession was more realistic than ever. He urged unity and warned that divisions, resentment and jealousy had repeatedly prevented the country from reaching its full potential.
