Prime Minister Edi Rama has stressed the need for an inspection system that supports businesses and promotes economic growth without creating unnecessary barriers. Speaking at a conference organised by the General Inspectorate on investment and compliance with legal requirements, he said inspections should serve a practical purpose rather than burden businesses.
Rama linked economic growth to the government’s ability to ease the financial burden on citizens. He cited the reduction of value-added tax on all basic consumer goods and direct intervention in fuel prices at the pump. He said these measures reflected an expanding economy and growing business activity.
The prime minister added that higher state budget revenues gave the government greater scope to redistribute income and introduce relief measures. These steps, he stressed, should support rather than undermine economic activity and business development.
Housing policy was another focus of his speech. Rama said economic growth could also enable the government to help young couples, students and middle-income households facing high rents. He raised the possibility of government co-financing rental costs.
Rama described economic growth as the result of joint efforts by the public and private sectors. However, he placed entrepreneurship at the centre of this success, linking business performance to employment, income redistribution and improved quality of life.
