Tirana, June 19 – Prime Minister Edi Rama gave an interview to Italian news agency Adnkronos in Rome during the FII Priority Europe investment forum organised by the FII Institute.
Meanwhile, Rama commented on Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s view that the Italy-Albania migration agreement paved the way for later developments in Evian. He said Meloni led that effort and deserved credit for its results. He also expressed hope that the agreement would benefit Italy and Europe.
In addition, Rama said Albania’s European Union membership process is closer than ever. He noted that Albania has opened all negotiation chapters. He added that Albania and the European Commission share a plan to complete the process by the end of 2027.
Asked about recent protests, Rama said peaceful demonstrations form part of every free and democratic society. He stressed that protests do not obstruct the European Union integration process. Instead, he said they reflect Albania’s democratic values and respect for public debate.
However, Rama argued that Europe’s main challenge is political. He said leaders already know what resources, talent, and expertise Europe possesses. He added that Europe must decide whether it wants to play a stronger role on the international stage. As a result, he called for quicker decisions and more effective implementation across the continent.
