Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Naples, Italy, following the inauguration of Albania’s Honorary Consulate there on September 14. On September 15, he visited the Albanian Language Department at the University of Naples L’Orientale.
The university is one of the historic centers of Albanian studies. Its Albanian language chair, established in 1900, is the oldest university chair of Albanian language and literature in Europe. Jeronim De Rada and other Arbëresh intellectuals played a key role in efforts to establish it.
The department has maintained an important tradition of preserving and promoting Albanian language, literature and culture. During his meeting with academic staff, Rama highlighted this heritage and called for stronger cooperation.
He also proposed creating a more structured university network to help preserve and further develop Albanian studies and heritage. Rama said the network could also help preserve and make better use of the academic work produced there.
Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro also attended the visit.
