PM Rama welcomed by Rutte and Erdogan at official NATO Summit reception

TIRANA, July 8 – Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the official reception for heads of state and government hosted by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the NATO Summit in Ankara.

Rama shared images from the reception on social media. He described the event as the official welcome of NATO leaders by Secretary General Rutte and President Erdogan.

Meanwhile, the Albanian prime minister also held a bilateral meeting with Rutte. The two officials discussed recent security developments, challenges facing the Alliance, and Albania’s contribution to NATO.

The summit agenda focuses on increasing defence spending, strengthening military industrial capacities, expanding European responsibility for continental security, and defining NATO’s future strategic direction. In addition, member states are discussing recent developments in Iran, transatlantic relations, the United States military presence in Europe, and the Alliance’s new roadmap for the coming years.

Turkey is hosting the NATO Summit for the first time in 22 years. Leaders of the Alliance’s 32 member states are holding the main working session, where they are expected to approve decisions on collective defence, military investment, and responses to new global security challenges.
