President Begaj Calls for Restraint and Responsibility: Discontent Must Not Be Expressed Through Violence!

Albanian President Bajram Begaj has reacted to the incidents that occurred today during protests that have escalated significantly.

In an official statement, Begaj called on all parties to exercise restraint to prevent the situation from escalating further.

Begaj stressed that peaceful protest is a fundamental right, but violence must not be used as a means of expressing discontent. He also expressed his willingness to listen to citizens’ concerns and urged everyone to act responsibly.

Full statement:

“The President of the Republic is following the escalation of tensions during the protests with concern and calls on all parties to act with responsibility and restraint.

The right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of democracy, and the state has an obligation to guarantee it. However, violence cannot be a means of expressing discontent, nor should the use of force by the police exceed the limits of the law and proportionality.

At this moment, the country needs greater responsibility. The Constitution and the law must remain the boundaries for everyone, without exception.

I remain ready to listen to all concerns.

My office is and will remain open to every young person and every citizen who wishes to express their views, engage in dialogue, and contribute to the good of the country,” the President of the Republic stated in a Facebook post.
