President Begaj meets Higher Security and Defence Course, says Western Balkans stability key to regional security

TIRANA, May 18 – President Bajram Begaj met participants of the Higher Security and Defence Course held at the Armed Forces Defence and Security College.

He praised the college for organising the programme. He also highlighted the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding among participants. In addition, he stressed the importance of building trust and strengthening ties between civilian and military professionals from different agencies and countries.

The discussion focused on geopolitical developments, security challenges and cooperation among partners and allies. According to Begaj, the composition of the course itself reflected this cooperation.

Meanwhile, the president underlined the importance of stability and security in the Western Balkans for Albania. He said the region continues to face complex political developments despite significant progress toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

He also said the Western Balkans holds strategic importance for NATO in the context of geopolitical dynamics and international conflicts. In this regard, he identified Kosova as an important issue.

Begaj highlighted Albania’s continued engagement in international organisations to support Kosova’s integration. He referred to efforts to increase international recognitions, support NATO membership and encourage participation in Alliance missions. According to him, these steps contribute to stronger regional security.

Representatives of Albanian security and military institutions attended the meeting. Participants from Bulgaria, Greece, Türkiye, Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Kosova, Poland and Jordan also joined the programme, which is considered one of the main courses offered by Albania’s military education system.
