President Begaj Receives New Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Albania

President Bajram Begaj received today the new Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, on the occasion of the presentation of her credentials.

The Presidency’s Press Office announced that the Head of State expressed confidence that cooperation between Albanian institutions and the EU Delegation in Tirana will continue to deepen, with the aim of achieving Albania’s strategic objective of full EU membership by 2030.

During the meeting, the two discussed the progress of the accession negotiations and Albania’s commitment to implementing reforms and meeting European standards. President Begaj stressed that Albania has entered an advanced and dynamic phase of the integration process, demonstrating unwavering political and societal commitment, as well as institutional readiness to continue fulfilling the obligations of EU membership.

The Head of State described the justice reform as one of the most significant demonstrations of Albania’s determination to meet European standards, despite the challenges of the process. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the independence and integrity of justice institutions, as well as intensifying the fight against corruption through the independent and politically uninfluenced functioning of other justice bodies.

The President of the Republic also reaffirmed that membership in the European Union is a national objective, widely supported by Albanian society. He stressed that the involvement of society as a whole in this process is one of the factors driving Albania to move more quickly towards completing the accession process.

“Albania is committed to achieving its strategic objective of joining the European Union by 2030. The involvement of the whole of Albanian society in fulfilling this ambition and its enthusiasm for this process are distinguishing features that encourage us to work even harder to achieve this objective,” President Begaj said.
