TIRANA, June 18 – Private producers and concessionaires generated more than half of Albania’s electricity output during the first four months of 2026, according to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE). The figures show that private operators surpassed the Albanian Power Corporation for the first time.
Meanwhile, net domestic electricity production reached 4.4 million MWh between January and April. Private producers and concessionaires generated 2.38 million MWh, or about 54% of the total. The Albanian Power Corporation generated 2.03 million MWh, or 46%.
In addition, the data indicate that private investment is gradually reshaping the structure of electricity generation. For decades, the public producer dominated the sector.
A notable development comes from solar energy production. Photovoltaic plants generated more than 230,000 MWh during the four-month period. This output accounted for about 5.2% of net domestic production.
At the same time, transmission-connected facilities provided most of the solar output. The figures suggest that large-scale photovoltaic projects are driving growth in the sector. Distributed generation plays a smaller role in this expansion.
