Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke at a press conference regarding the construction project in the Zvërnec area, following the protests that have taken place there.
Rama described the land purchase transaction as a positive development and stressed that anyone claiming ownership of the property will be subject to investigation.
“What I want to talk about concerns a very positive development regarding the verification process of the land purchase transaction in Zvërnec. With the complete and final clarification of the origin of the funds transferred through the banking system, and with the final clearance of the investors, who are now the owners of the property.
I consider it very positive that SPAK has decided to freeze the funds rather than allow them to be transferred to the seller, who is currently under investigation. From my perspective, this is also positive for anyone claiming ownership rights over that territory. The issue of the property’s ownership history will now be examined through an independent and professional investigation conducted by SPAK.
In either case, the outcome will be legally unquestionable. This process will put an end to all speculation and manipulation that is not based on the law. If the seller can prove a legitimate ownership title, they will receive the money. If not, the funds will remain with Albania and will be used to compensate anyone who can prove a legitimate claim to the property.
This brings an end to the concerns of those who are genuine claimants to the land. Those who continue to present themselves as claimants may do so, but it is no longer our issue,” Rama said.
