Proposal to Restructure Albanian Superliga to Reduce Matches Without Sporting Objectives

The Football Association of Albania (FSHF) discussed a proposal to change the structure of the “Abissnet Superiore” and lower divisions during a consultation meeting with club representatives.

First, the Competitions Department and the Leagues and Competitions Committee held talks with clubs from both the Superliga and the First Division. The meeting focused on improving the structure of the championships for the 2026/27, 2027/28, and 2028/29 seasons.

In cooperation with UEFA and the international analytics company Hypercube, the FSHF presented a new competition format. The proposal aims to reduce matches played without sporting significance and to increase competitiveness throughout the season.

Moreover, the new structure seeks to improve the preparation of Albanian clubs for European competitions. It also aims to ensure that more matches carry high competitive value.

In addition, the proposal intends to create a more dynamic and attractive league product for fans, broadcasters, and commercial partners. As a result, it would keep sporting interest alive until the end of the season.

Finally, club representatives shared their feedback during the meeting. The Executive Committee of the FSHF will review all suggestions and make the final decision on the new league structure.
