Prosecutors association strengthens cooperation with US justice authorities

TIRANA, April 3 – The head of Albania’s Prosecutors Association, Gezim Spahiu, held a series of meetings in the United States this week. He met North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby and US Attorney Robert Higdon Jr.

He then continued talks with Jordan Ford, head of financial crimes at the North Carolina Prosecutors Conference. He also met federal prosecutor Russ Ferguson and Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler in Oklahoma. These meetings expanded professional contacts across key justice institutions.

The visits took place under the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The programme enabled exchanges of experience and best practices in prosecution and justice administration. It also offered a platform to present the work of Albania’s Prosecutors Association.

During the discussions, participants stressed the value of professional exchanges. They said such cooperation strengthens institutional capacities and improves prosecutorial efficiency. They also explored opportunities for future collaboration between counterparts.

Spahiu said the visit aims to consolidate international professional relations. He added that it will help improve prosecutorial practices in Albania and support further development of the justice system.
