The British Embassy in Tirana has reacted following clashes on the second day of protests outside the Ministry of Education.
In a statement published on the Ministry’s official Facebook page, the embassy stressed that the right to protest does not justify the use of violence or damage to public and private property.
“The British Embassy in Tirana underlines the importance of the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression, as protected by the Constitution of the Republic of Albania. However, the right to protest does not justify the use of violence or damage to public and private property. Equally, protests should not be met with disproportionate police action. The British Embassy calls on all parties to respect these rights and contribute to de-escalating tensions,” the embassy said in its statement on social media.
